What you should know about hair transplants
Hair transplantation is one of the most common procedures in aesthetic medicine. Common reasons include hereditary hair loss (androgenetic alopecia), scarring after accidents or surgery, and personal beauty ideals. The goal is to restore fullness to bald or thinning areas of the scalp by redistributing the patient’s own hair follicles.

Modern techniques such as FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) or FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) enable natural and long-lasting results. However, every procedure involves risks – such as infections, wound healing issues, or uneven hair growth. To protect yourself from unforeseen follow-up costs, you can take out a special follow-up cost insurance policy with beautyprotect.

Tips for preparing for your hair transplant
Please follow your doctor’s instructions. In addition, the following general recommendations apply:

  • Avoid blood-thinning medications, alcohol, and nicotine for at least two weeks before the procedure.
  • Wash your hair the evening before with a mild shampoo, but do not apply any hair care products.
  • Arrive on the day of the procedure with a clean scalp and avoid styling products, makeup, or perfume.
  • Wear comfortable clothing with buttons or a zipper to avoid touching the freshly treated scalp when undressing.
  • Arrange your transportation home – you should not drive yourself after the procedure.
What to keep in mind after a hair transplant
Proper aftercare is crucial for the growth of the transplanted hair. Please keep the following points in mind:

  • Swelling and redness in the first few days are normal.
  • Wash your hair no earlier than 48 hours after the procedure, and only with special shampoos and techniques recommended by your doctor.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, intense physical activity, and wearing headgear during the first two weeks.
  • Scratching or rubbing the treated areas can damage the hair follicles – please avoid this at all costs.
  • Sleep in a slightly elevated position on your back to reduce swelling.
  • During the so-called "shock loss phase" (2–6 weeks after the procedure), hair loss may occur – this is normal and temporary.
  • The final result is often only visible after 9–12 months. Be patient.
